Have you got your Recession Pivot in Place yet?
And why it might be time to do so!
My heart is breaking for so many of my entrepreneurial friends in the DM’s this past month.
It seems that the old way of working - the “hustle harder” method that got them through lockdown and back into an open economy is no longer working as well as it used to. The market has moved on but they are so petrified of the negative news globally that my once fleet-of-foot movers and shakers are no longer quite so nimble.
My friends are burned out, they are grumpy! They are watching revenues fall and interactions in their communities tail off and falter. They are beginning to buy into the fear that permeates the media and experiencing angry responses to online interactions that never used to be the situation.
Now instead of boldly stepping forward they are retreating and spending time tinkering in the background making over their programmes and projects and wondering why the money spigot cannot be turned on again.
They are feeling isolated and alone - as if they are the only ones going through this period where the sands are shifting under their feet and they -for once - are not sure of how they are going to survive these next few seasons never mind thrive in them.
It feels like everyone is preparing for something big - but we are not really sure what that something big may be!
It feels like everyone is preparing for a downturn - but they can’t predict if this is going to be a blimp of a few months or a cycle downward for a few years.
It feels like everyone is preparing for the worst - and no one is looking at a global recession as the momentous opportunity that it can be for many blossoming businesses!
Instagram, WhatsApp, Uber .. you have heard of those right? Well, ALL started in the last recession and are literally household brand names globally now!
I’m not saying you need to be the next Uber - but I am saying that you may want to consider that this may be a time to lean into your business as the “feardie cats” leave and retreat back to ordinary jobs that on the surface may offer more short term security.
One of my community has just emerged from months working a minimum wage “safety job” and has just been offered a £35,000 A WEEK - High Ticket Sales Role!!! Now she is a High Ticket Sales SUPERSTAR, absolutely no doubt about that! Her thinking was that all sales go away in a recession - the reality is that in the High Ticket Market, there is still NO shortage of money! And now she is back - not only in her own role but building an agency of High Ticket Closers so that she can have the leverage of other people's time too!! She is super-smart, but even super-smart people need a coach that steers them through the “stinkin’ thinkin’” at times!
New Times Need New Thinking!
Another in my community - much earlier in her entrepreneurial journey, has managed to niche her market down to an amazing degree over the weeks. She has a GENIUS skill of finding foreclosed family homes that you can buy for over 50% off (and face it in a recession a lot of families are going to sadly be in this position) Her mission is to help newly divorced Mums find their forever family home BY CHRISTMAS and then stepping them into a life of financial prosperity by helping them find another handful of properties to invest in. Talk about helping families recovering from divorce - what a mission! But think about it - think of the opportunities that there are going to be in the next few years for those who are prepared to take action to build a solid financial foundation even through a global recession!
New Times Need New Thinking!
I am not saying that I have all the answers - I am saying that there are solid foundations and brilliant businesses to be built in a downturn .. and you can choose to be someone who gets out or someone who doubles down!
You Get To Choose!
You can hunker down in your office and pretend you are running a business because you are “improving your process” .. but with my coaching hat on and because I love you I am here to give you the “real talk”. “Improving your process” is deflection speak for a process that I refer to as “Polishing the turd” …. it's your turd, I get that, but polishing it is not going to magically turn it into gold.
Maybe you should consider a recession pivot?
A way to build a highly engaged and tiny cohort of passionate people who love your offer, love how you move through life, and together you can all move through these hard years ahead as one.
It doesn’t take millions of sales to make a living!
Heck - it doesn’t take millions of sales to make a million!
Just one great idea, a simple business system .. and maybe a coach that loves you enough to call you out on the distracting bullshit that is keeping you busy but is not earning you a living.
